HISTORY OF THE STATE NATURE MUSEUM OF UZBEKISTAN

1876-year

It is one of the first major scientific and educational institutions of Central Asia. This institution called "Tashkent Museum" was founded on July 12, 1876 by the initiative of people interested in natural science, anthropology and ethnography.

1921-year

The museum was transferred to the committee on conservation of ancient monuments, art and nature, and was named the main museum of Central Asia.

1930-year

In 1930, together with the nature departments, the agricultural museum and the zoological garden, it was named the Central Asian Museum of Nature and Production Forces.

1935-year

In January, the nature branch of this organization was transformed into the State Nature Museum of Uzbekistan. The museum is located at 16 Sagbon street, Tashkent city.

1944-year

As an institution that stores rich scientific funds, it was transferred to the system of the FA of Uzbekistan and named "Nature Museum of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan".

1963-year

It started to be called "Uzbekistan State Nature Museum". Scientific employees of the museum paid attention to scientific, educational and cultural public works.

Museum history

There are different museums in our republic according to their direction. One of them is the State Nature Museum of Uzbekistan. The State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan was founded on July 12, 1876 and is the only one in Central Asia according to its direction. Its scientific fund contains museum objects related to natural science, and it is the main museum in the Republic in this field.

During the one and a half century history of the museum, the scientific fund of the museum was further enriched, and for this purpose, the scientific staff of the museum visited the territories of the Republic, including Kyzylkum in 1912, the Hisar mountain range in 1937, the Aloy mountain range in 1936-37 (Borsin stream gorge, Borsin glacier ) a scientific expedition was organized.

The collection of entomology in the scientific fund of the museum ranks high among the entomological collections available in the countries of the Commonwealth. In addition, the museum has a collection of oology (eggs), animal trunks included in the red book, geology, and museum objects related to the world of plants.

For five years, the scientific staff of the museum, together with the artists, created an exposition reflecting the nature of the Republic. In order to create a museum exposition, from 1960 to 1966, scientific expeditions were organized in different regions of Uzbekistan, in the orchards of Kyzylkum, Amudarya, and Syrdarya, in the foothills of the Turkestan ridge, in the fruit tree forests of the Fergana and Piskent ridges, and in the high mountains of the Turkestan and Chotkal ridges.

Excursions and practical lessons related to the subjects of educational institutions, exhibitions and lectures were organized in educational institutions in the museum exposition.

According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 22, 2004 No. 600 “On providing the building of the State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan”, it was moved to the address of 1 A. Niyazov street, Almazor district, Tashkent city. Based on the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 350-F of July 6, 2007, a new exposition of the museum was created, and it resumed its activities in May 2010, on the occasion of May 18 – the International Day of Museums.

Creation of a new exposition of the State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan, enrichment of the scientific fund of the museum, according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 276 of December 20, 2008 “On measures to increase the effectiveness of the breeding of wild birds in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan” of wild birds included in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to create conditions for the artificial reproduction of rare species, to familiarize with the work being done on the preservation of the gene pool and the reproduction of their species in Uzbekistan, including the work on the reproduction of tuvaloks, to introduce and promote to the general public and visitors to the museum, in cooperation with the Museum of Local History of the Navoi Region, the Emirates of the Navoi Region a scientific expedition was organized to the canvas storage center. The center got acquainted with the work on reproduction of canvases.

Within the framework of the visit, cooperation was established between the Center for the Conservation of Tuvalok and the State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan, and the center donated 4 tuvalok eggs to the museum. These canvas eggs are currently on display at the museum. This scientific expedition, organized by the State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan, was supported by the State Committee for Nature Protection of Uzbekistan. The symbol of the State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan shows a picture of a tuvalok bird.

In July 2019, the old building of the museum was demolished due to the construction of “Victory Park” on the territory of the museum.

According to the Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 884-F of October 23, 2019, the “Model House Gallery” building, located at 1 Zarqaynar Street, Almazor District, Tashkent, owned by “Uzbekneftgaz” JSC, was given to the State Nature Museum of Uzbekistan on the basis of operational management.

By the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-171 dated 31.05.2023, the State Nature Museum of Uzbekistan was transferred from the Agency of Cultural Heritage to the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
